I am working on fleeces

getting them re-skirted and cleaned up.
I am taking advantage of the nicer days to go
through the fleeces from this year's shearing
that had not been handled since shearing.
There simply were not enough hours in the day.
And, until recently, I've not been able to stand
with this ankle for any period of time.
It still is not very long, but I can get a couple
done at a time and then I need to come in and
put it up to reduce the pain and swelling.

 This is a mystery fleece.
I THINK it is a Romney x Katahdin.
It has had its 'spine' removed due to heavy
vegetable matter and grain 'seeds'.
The staple length on the sides averages 7".
It is not an overly soft fleece, nor it is a coarse fleece.
It would be great for outwear.
It does have kemp at the rear end.
I would use that is heels and toes,
or for boot socks.

It has not yet been weighed.
I am waiting to have a bunch to do, and I will
do them downstairs in the to-be shop where it
is MUCH cooler! But, if you are interested, I can
weigh it sooner. Email me at eweifarm @ msn.com.

This blog is on hold temporarily

Ewe & I Farm  is headed to the 43rd annual NH Sheep & Wool Festival next weekend, May 11th & 12th, in Deerfield, NH. https://www.nhswga.org/nh-sheep-wool-festival

All our fleeces, roving, yarn and knit goods are slowly making their way into the horse trailer. So, nothing will be available until the show, or after if not sold in Deerfield.

It may take me a week or two after the show to get everything back into the house, and into the new wool room downstairs, as I am still dealing with the ankle.

The ankle is healing slowly. The hardware was removed April 5th. leaving a baker's dozen of holes in the bones. The surgeon said there is a high chance I could break it again, so I am moving cautiously and with a cane. But, I am moving!! I am thankful for the pain as that means I can still feel! I am taking Lyrica for my Fibromyalgia, and that is helping with the nerve pain from all the damage I did when I broke it 11 months ago.

Each day is a blessing.

Here's to LOTS of sales at the festival!! Come see us if you can. We are the last of the vendors at the top of the hill in Commercial Building #2 in the far back left corner. We will have LOTS of new roving thanks to Zeilinger Wool Company zwool.com and Sallie's Fen Fibers http://www.salliesfenfibers.com/

Remember (or know) that we are a part of the Livestock Conservancy's Shave 'Em to Save 'Em campaign for the next 3 years. Shave 'Em to Save 'Em Face Book page  We are an official fiber provider for this campaign. https://livestockconservancy.org/index.php/involved/internal/SE2 And, we have stickers for your passports!! If you are a fiber artist, join at the bottom of the page listed above and join the movement to save our endangered Heritage breeds.
Our Horned Dorset are on the threatened list. That is the main reason we switched from raising polled to horned. https://livestockconservancy.org/index.php/heritage/internal/conservation-priority-list#Sheep
We will have our Dorset, as well as Shetland, Tunis, Jacob and hopefully Navajo Churro and Oxford at the festival. If the Churro and Oxford are not at NH they will be in roving form at the https://vtsheepandwoolfest.com/ in October.

Horned Dorset yarn and some knitted samples

 Fingering weight
3.8-4 oz.
400 yards
$25
 Light worsted weight
4 oz. 200 yards
$18
I do not know why this particular yarn is not white.
I think the mill may have rewashed the fleece, and
left the rest washed as it was from here. Some mills
have chlorine in their water which will change the color.
Worsted weight
150 yds. 4 oz.
$18
The sweater is knit in the light worsted.
All items below were knit in the fingering weight.

All will be at the NH Sheep & Wool festival
in Deerfield, NH Mother's Day weekend.

Crazy time of year

Jerry is shearing EVERY day after work now, and I am trying to get caught up on what I need to do before my next ankle surgery.

All 33 of our sheep have been sheared. And, I have another 10 fleeces (as of today) from 3 other farms here.

I am hoping he can bring my skirting table up to the deck so I won't have to go far to process fleece after surgery. 😊 I am also hoping to get these 43 skirted, photographed, bagged, tagged, and weighed before next Friday! I can upload the pictures and update the blog while I am recovering.

So, stay tuned!

Shearing is starting up in full force!!!

We have 33 of our own fleeces and 10 other fleeces from 3 different farms. We are shearing every day this week. I am hoping to get the skirting table set up next Monday, and skirt and photograph the available fleeces Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully it will be a LOT warmer than it is right now.
My ankle surgery has been pushed back to Friday the 5th. So, I am going to be trying to get as many fleeces ready to post before that. I can upload pictures and create a new post while I am healing. Hubby can pack up fleeces and take them to the Post Office. 😁
